New 2018 Chevrolet Camaro

2018 Chevrolet Camaro Overview

New/Notable
  • Four engine options
  • Manual or automatic transmission
  • Coupe or convertible bodystyle
The 2018 Chevrolet Camaro is a sporty muscle car that comes as a coupe or a convertible. It competes with the Ford Mustang, Dodge Challenger, and Toyota 86. This year, it remains largely unchanged.

Five trims are readily available: the 1LT, 2LT, 1SS, 2SS, and ZL1.

Exterior
In contrast to the Mustang’s hyper-aggressive styling, the Camaro has more understated, sleek lines throughout its exterior. That’s not to say the Camaro doesn’t look like a retro-inspired muscle car. Indeed, it is. The front-end features a skinny grille, geometric headlights, and a big-mouth fascia. It also has thick rear pillars, rectangular taillights, and a dual-pipe exhaust system. The SS trim looks even more aggressive with its functional dual-vent hood and larger front air scoops. Standard features include LED daytime running lamps, front fog lights, and power side mirrors. Available features include HID headlights, heated side mirrors, a power sunroof, LED taillights, and a rear spoiler.

Under the Hood
Powering the Camaro is a standard 275-hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine mated to a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. A more powerful 335-hp, 3.6-liter V-6 is also available for the 1LT and 2LT trims, but the automatic transmission is the only option. The 1SS and 2SS trims come with a 455-hp, 6.2-liter V-8. Finally, the ZL1 is powered by a 650-hp, supercharged 6.2-liter V-8. Fuel economy for the Camaro 4-cylinder is an EPA-estimated 21/30 mpg city/highway. It decreases to a 16/25 mpg rating for the Camaro V-8.

Interior
Inside, the Camaro features a sporty black cloth interior with front bucket seats. The center console houses a standard MyLink multimedia system with a 7-inch touchscreen, a satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity for phone and audio, and a USB port. It can be upgraded with a larger 8-inch touchscreen, an integrated navigation system, and a Bose premium audio system. Standard features include air conditioning, power windows/locks, remote keyless entry, and a tilt/telescoping steering wheel. Full leather upholstery, Recaro sport seats, a wireless smartphone charging station, a heads-up display, remote vehicle start, a memory seat, heated/ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and an automatic dimming rearview mirror are also available.

Safety
The Camaro SS has an available 1LE handling package, which includes firm FE4 suspension and Magnetic Ride Control for comfort. Other optional safety features include rear park assist, a blindspot monitoring system, rear cross-traffic alert, and OnStar connected services for emergencies and vehicle diagnostics. A limited slip differential, a backup camera, and a tire pressure monitoring system come standard.
